Real Madrid v Getafe - Match Preview
This week is an important one for Real Madrid.
Two matches in the space of four days could set the pattern for the remainder of the season.
On Tuesday the squad travels to Paris for the second-leg of the last-16 knockout stages fixture, against Paris Saint-Germain, in the Champions League.
Tonight, they welcome Getafe to the Bernabeu in a La Liga fixture.
Considering the gap between ourselves and Barcelona, who lead La Liga, it would be easy for Zinedine Zidane to prioritise the games, with the Champions League taking priority.
But the Frenchman isn`t doing that as he believes Real Madrid could, despite the odds suggesting otherwise, mount a late charge for the La Liga title.
Talking to the media at his pre-match press conference Zidane had this to say,
'You think that the league is over for us but football is like that and every league match is important. The title will go down to the wire and we'll fight until the end. It's difficult but not impossible. I'm an optimist until the end."
However, if Real Madrid suffer a result like that of Tuesday night, when they lost away to Espanyol courtesy of a stoppage time goal, any lingering hopes will surely die.
Remarking about that shock defeat, Zidane added at his pre-match press conference,
'We're angry about losing on Tuesday and I'm even more so after Barcelona's draw yesterday. You have to be focused until the very last minute and we're not giving in.'
With regards to team-news, Real Madrid will be able to welcome bac Marcelo who has recovered from a hamstring problem but will still have to make do without the services of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
Can Real Madrid make in-roads into the 15-point gap between themselves and Barcelona or is it all wishful thinking?
