Celta Vigo v Real Madrid - Preview

Celta Vigo v Real Madrid - Preview

Real Madrid return to La Liga action tonight with an away fixture against Celta Vigo.

After the traditional two-week festive break, Real Madrid will be keen to get back to winning ways after they were beaten 3-0, at the Bernabeu, in their last La Liga fixture, a defeat inflicted by the current leaders of the table, Barcelona.

That defeat left Real Madrid trailing Barcelona by fourteen points but with a game in hand.

A victory against Celta Vigo is essential if Real Madrid are to retain any hopes of catching Barcelona.

But Celta Vigo will provide tough opposition, a fact borne out by the fact they held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the Copa del Rey, in midweek.

Talking about the opposition, Zinedine Zidane has remarked at his pre-match press conference,

'We're facing a very good team in this league, who work hard and have good players. What they are doing is very good, and we know the difficulty of this match. But I'm more interested in what we're going to try and do.'

Real Madrid`s opponents are currently lying in 11th place in La Liga having accumulated 21 points, 10 less than Real Madrid.

Their coach Juan Carlos Unzue, has a second fixture against Barcelona to contemplate in midweek and is looking to rotate his squad, remarking at his pre-match press conference,

'The two line-ups will be related, players who were substitutes against Barcelona will be starters.

'I've tried to make two teams that are as balanced as possible. I've no doubt that we're going to be competitive.'

Will Real Madrid get back to winning ways against Celta Vigo?

Here`s hoping so.
