Real Madrid 1 Gremio 0 (FIFA Club World Cup Final)
Taking a break from La Liga action, to play in the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup, Real Madrid took on the Brazilian outfit, Gremio, in the final in Abu Dhabi.
Real Madrid, in a tight encounter whereby it looked as if the Brazilian side would frustrate them, won the trophy with a solitary goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.
The goal was a long time coming as Gremio`s disciplined defence kept real Madrid at bay and saw them become increasingly frustrated.
In the opening forty-five minutes, Real Madrid dominated the proceedings having ten chances but only one of those was on target. With the levels of frustration growing, real Madrid resorted to efforts from long-range but without success with shorts from Modric, Benzema and Ronaldo all being high and wide.
But, the deadlock was ended in the fifty-third minute when, following the award of a free-kick, a long-range effort from Cristiano Ronaldo did hit the back of the net with the Portuguese superstar curling the ball through a gap in the wall and into the net.
The goal was Ronaldo`s fourth in three Club World Cup Finals and was enough to see Real Madrid lift the trophy for a third time equalling the record of Barcelona.
