Real Madrid 3 Borussia Dortmund 2

Real Madrid 3 Borussia Dortmund 2

With the top two places, in the Champions` League group stage already pre-determined, with Tottenham Hotspur winning the group and Real Madrid coming second, the last group game was a bit of an anti-climax on paper.

Thankfully though, the actual game was well worth watching with Real Madrid getting the better of their Bundesliga opponents in a five-goal thriller.

Real Madrid got off to the perfect start, racing into a two-goal lead inside the first twelve minutes.

Mayoral opened the scoring in the eighth minute with Ronaldo doubling the lead in the twelfth minute.

The goal, from Ronaldo, made a little piece of Champions League history with the Portuguese striker becoming the first ever player to score in all six group stage matches, the goal was also Ronaldo`s 114th in the Champions League.

The 2-0 lead should, so many thought, have provided Real Madrid with the springboard to inflict a heavy defeat on their opponents but Borussia Dortmund fought back.

Goals either side of half time, by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, made it 2-2.

In a tense finish, it was Real Madrid that were to snatch the victory when Vazquez scored to make it 3-2.

Real Madrid will be in the draw for the knockout stages on Monday, with the draw taking place in Nyon, Switzerland, whilst Borussia Dortmund, who accumulated a mere two points from their six group games will drop into the Europa League.
