Apoel 0 Real Madrid 6

In Nicosia, Real Madrid secured qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League with an emphatic win.

However, despite winning 6-0 in this group fixture, Real Madrid will not top the group, that honour goes to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Real Madrid with the possibility of having to play one of the top European sides who have topped another group.

The rout of the Cypriot side started in the 23rd minute when Modric opened the scoring and the game was to be wrapped up before half-time when three goals in six minutes put the game beyond the reach of Apoel.

First, with thirty-nine minutes on the clock, Benzema doubled the lead and then two minutes later Nacho made it 3-0.

With Apoel reeling Benzema made it 4-0, with his second goal of the game in first half stoppage time.

After the break there was no respite for Apoel with Ronaldo getting in on the act with a brace. The first of the Portuguese superstars goals came just four minutes into the second half and Ronaldo made it 6-0 five minutes later to make it 6-0.

In scoring two goals Ronaldo set a Champions League record by scoring 18 goals in 2017, the most anybody has ever scored in a Champions League calendar year.

After the poor run of recent form, have Real Madrid turned the corner with this win?
