Benzema's Bernabeu Extension
Karim Benzema - so often linked with a move to the Premier League, Arsenal, under his countryman Arsene Wenger, the club most strongly mentioned - isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
A new four year contract extension will keep Benzema at Real Madrid until 2021.
Benzema, 29, has made well over 350 appearances for Real since his arrival from French club Lyon in 2009 - scoring 181 goals - with this new deal taking his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond a decade, assuming the forward does indeed see out this deal for at least the next two years.
Ahead of the shock defeat against Real Betis this statement was released on realmadrid.com.
'Real Madrid C. F. and Karim Benzema have agreed an extension to the player's contract, binding him to the club until 30 June 2021. Tomorrow, Thursday, at 2:00pm CEST, Benzema will speak to the media in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu.'
His contract extension comes after new long-term deals were signed by left back Marcelo, right back Dani Carvajal and midfielder Isco.
Zinedine Zidane also confirmed his deal, which would have expired at the end of the current campaign, has been extended.
In his news conference ahead of Betis the Real boss said his renewal was 'already done' having first seen it announced by Los Blancos Zidane, 45, had agreed a new deal, thought to be three years, back in August.
Zizou was quoted by the BBC: 'In terms of the renewal, it's already done. I care about the day to day and I'm not looking further than that.'
