Vital View - Champions League - 12th-13th September 2017

The Champions League season got underway with the first round of games played in midweek.

Last season Barcelona were soundly beaten by Juventus as the Bianconeri marched onto the final - on Tuesday Barca avenged this somewhat with a convincing win in Spain.

It was also convincing for Bayern Munich, who saw off Anderlecht.

There were also resounding wins for Paris Saint Germain, who won 5-0 at Celtic Park against Scottish champions Celtic. Meanwhile, Chelsea marked their return to the competition with a 6-0 win over Qarabag FK.

Manchester United - also back in the competition - and Sporting Lisbon also got underway with wins.

Wednesday saw another full schedule of Champions League games as former winners Porto got off to a losing start after a home defeat against Besiktas - there was no slip by Manchester City though as Pep Guardiola's side secured a convincing win at Feyenoord.

Liverpool marked their own return to the competition with an Anfield draw against multi-time Europa League winners Sevilla. The other Premier League side in the competition - Tottenham - got underway with a Wembley win over Borussia Dortmund.

A first foray into the Champions League saw Leipzig collect a point against French champions Monaco. Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk recorded a somewhat surprising win over Italian club Napoli.

Defending champions, actually back-to-back winners, Real Madrid began a quest for a third straight success in Europe with their first home win of the campaign - comfortably seeing off the challenge Apoel Nicosia at the Bernabeu.

Here's a round-up of the Champions League results.
