New Real Madrid Deal For Zidane
Real Madrid have handed Zinedine Zidane a new three year deal following an impressive 18 months in charge so far.
The former French international, a World Cup and European Championship winner, knows things change quickly in football, especially at the Santiago Bernabeu, so as much as Zidane doesn't have plans to leave Real any time soon he's aware it could be that he's not even at the club this time next year.
He told realmadrid.com: 'I don't have a termination clause. I am here enjoying every single day. Some day that will end but my relationship with Real Madrid does not depend on contracts or money. I am happy with the faith the club has shown me and I'm pleased with the work my players put in. I could sign for 20 years but I know where I am and what my aims are. Who knows, maybe within a year I won't be here and that's that. Real Madrid and I will never disagree on things. I really enjoy my job here.'
Zidane also knows; which is inevitable, there will be 'ups and downs' but at the moment he's on a real high and wants this to continue, adding further silverware to his two Champions League successes and a La Liga title.
'There are always going to be ups and downs but at such a great moment we're enjoying it. We can achieve things as a united group, working hard together. My aims here have been to win every game and every title. I'm trying to bring something new to the team, we're doing well but I know where I am. I know my day-to-day tasks. Tomorrow we go into battle for another trophy and we must give our best possible. We're going to try and win and then think about the second leg. I am lucky to have a squad of this calibre, they really are extraordinary.'
He was further quoted by the BBC that a contract isn't needed at Real as his affinity to the club runs deeper than this, again stressing deals aren't actually worth the paper they're printed on as such.
'My story with Real Madrid is deeper than contracts and signatures. I'm happy to be linked with the club. But the contract doesn't mean anything.'
Adding: 'You can sign for 10, 20 years. I know where I am and what to do. In one year, maybe I won't be here. Real Madrid and I are not going to argue, never.'
