Admitting Defeat

Admitting Defeat

Jose Mourinho has admitted defeat in Manchester United's bid to lure Gareth Bale back to the Premier League.

In fact he feels it's 'game over' after he started for Real Madrid as we won the European Super Cup on Tuesday.

Zinedine Zidane's played his cards close to his chest, refusing to give too much away, but Mourinho's hopes of working with Bale at Old Trafford were seemingly ended when Zizou named the Wales international in his starting XI in Macedonia.

Well, Mourinho certainly feels Bale will stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

He told BT Sport, via Sky Sports: 'Clearly the club wants him, the manager wants him and he wants the club, so for me it's game over - even before it started. It's game over clearly because everybody knows he is going to stay.'

Does Mourinho genuinely believe this or is this a case of mind games? Taking into account the former Real boss is a past master of this.

As for Bale he simply said he's been concentrating on his football.

'I am just concentrating on my football. I am not listening to anything, I don't read anything, obviously I get told bits and bobs,' he said. 'I am enjoying my football here, I am playing as much as I can and I'm winning trophies so that's all I am concentrating on.'

Bale also insisted he's had no talks with Real about a potential exit with the addition of another European Super Cup winners medal going into his collection and the Welshman is keen to add more to this in the season ahead, as a Los Blancos footballer.

He said: 'I haven't had any conversations (with Madrid), I am just concentrating on my football, I'm trying to get my fitness up as much as I can after pretty much not playing regularly for eight or nine months. It is great to keep adding to the (medal) collection, it was a very difficult game but we got the job done and we've got another trophy and we move on.'
